Sports have been entertaining people for centuries, and we just can not seem to get enough of it. In a country enthralled by football, baseball, basketball, and soccer, there may be room for one more powerhouse. Enter pickleball a game that has taken the sporting world by storm in recent years. What exactly is pickleball, you ask? How do you play? Where can you play? And what makes it so incredibly popular? Join us as we delve into the world of pickleball and uncover the cause of its meteoric rise.

The Basics

Pickleball is a potluck of elements consisting of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It is played on a court similar to a tennis court, but a fraction of the size. Put simply, players use flat paddles to volley a perforated ball over the net. The game can be played either as singles or doubles, making it a fun competition.

How to Play

Unlike many other sports where it is easy to get lost in all the rules and technicalities, playing pickleball is relatively straightforward to pick up. This is one of the reasons for its widespread popularity. A pickler will start the game with an underhand serve to their opponent. The serve must be cross-court, and then the players can volley until one makes a mistake. Points are only scored by the server, and the game goes to 11 points. However, there is a win-by-two rule. Another important rule to note is that volleying is not allowed within the first 7 feet from the net, which is known as the kitchen.

Where to Play

With its growing popularity, Pickleball courts are popping up all over, making it increasingly accessible. Many community centers, parks, and recreational facilities now offer pickleball courts for public use. Additionally, pickleball clubs and leagues have emerged, providing opportunities for players to compete and socialize. Pickle and Social in Gwinnett, GA is a place to eat, drink, play, and hang out.
